A Wyoming legal career

Since 1971.

Experience

Dallas’s record spans prosecution, public defense, private criminal defense, serious civil litigation, criminal trials, appellate advocacy, trial-lawyer education, mentoring, and public service.

Perspective

The courtroom from opposing positions.

  • City of Casper prosecutor
  • Wyoming public defender
  • Special Prosecuting Attorney, Converse County
  • Private criminal-defense lawyer

His criminal practice has included homicide and other serious felony trials, including multiple homicide acquittals.

That record reflects decades of testing evidence, intent, witness credibility, and the government’s theory before juries.

Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Every matter depends on its own facts and law.

Civil trial work

Serious civil matters.

Dallas has represented people and families in serious injury, wrongful-death, truck and commercial-vehicle, aviation, and other complex civil litigation.

His aviation work has included representing the sole survivor of a plane crash.

The record on appeal

More than four decades before the Wyoming Supreme Court.

Published Wyoming decisions document Dallas’s appellate work from 1973 through 2017.

  • Eddy v. First Wyoming Bank1986 · Counsel for appellant
  • Martin v. Farmers Insurance Exchange1995 · Counsel for appellants
  • Estate of Coleman v. Casper Concrete1997 · Counsel for appellant
  • City of Casper v. Simonson2017 · Counsel for respondent

Appellate work demands a different discipline: preserve the issue, identify the controlling question, reduce a complicated record to its essential facts, and persuade through law and precision.

Trial craft

Experience was never a reason to stop learning.

From 1998 through 2006, Dallas served on the staff of the Trial Lawyers College founded by Gerry Spence.

There, seasoned trial lawyers studied advocacy through the human story inside a case: understanding the people involved, discovering what is true, and communicating it to a jury without losing the person inside the legal problem.

Dallas has also helped other lawyers develop as advocates, including teaching mock trial and client communication at the Summer Trial Institute.

What the record means now

Experience changes what a lawyer can see.

These roles—prosecutor, defender, plaintiff’s lawyer, appellate advocate, teacher, mentor—shape what Dallas sees when a new matter reaches his desk.
